A Very Unique 3rd System Fort in Florida

Coming here in July of 2002 specifically to study the huge 15 Inch Rodman Gun, I also learned that this fort was one of only three south of Richmond, VA that remained in Union hands after the start of the Civil War. Ft. Jefferson and Ft. Monroe were the others. Located on the west end of Santa Rosa Island, this fort has a very unique history and and some very long, impressive, seafront scarps with casemate and barbette gun positions.
