Seacoast Artillery Photo Gallery Counterhurters in EXACT One-Sixth Scale Work Wonderfully Here you see the very efficient 19th century compression brakes. With heavy loads which we found to be most accurate, the upper carriage moves rearward smartly at almost 14 feet per second! The counterhurters in this photo are in the WRONG position for accuracy. Group size went from an average of 5.5 inches to 3.5 inches by simply moving them up against the cheeks of the upper carriage. The one inch offset concept is logical and was tried because it lets the carriage recoil freely, without anything binding it until the bolt clears the muzzle. This particular logical idea did not work in this case and we found by making the gun work to move the entire chassis, mount and weighted bench immediately after ignition, actually shrank the average group size by almost 40%!
