Seacoast Artillery Photo Gallery Complete Elimination of `Flyers` is Our New Goal After pushing the ironclad target frame aside, Mike and my son fire another group at 100 yards. We suspect that occasional cracks are being formed in the expanding skirt as we continue to use the, now standard, 400 grain load. Or perhaps very small pieces of the skirt are being blown off by this stout load. We are now faced with a dilema: do we increase the skirt thickness slightly by one or two thousandths of an inch, or do we keep the skirt at .020 inch thickness and reduce the charge to 375 or 380 grains of BP to reduce the pressure and hope that we still have full engagement of the skirt in the rifling grooves?
