A `Navy Theory` Ironclad Killer
This 5.5 oz. bolt had a solid 1/2 inch tungsten carbide core and had the middle section turned down to reduce weight, creating two bourlette bands which centered this bolt in the cannon`s bore. Civil War Navy Theory refers to the fact that the navies prefered a lighter, higher velocity bolt which would perform well at the lesser ranges common in most ironclad naval battles.
